Entering Erik’s mind had been painful.
Had the mutant not been blinded by rage, perhaps Charles wouldn’t have intruded so easily. But intrude he did, and what he saw caused him to cry out in pain and sink to his knees. A sharp stinging of hatred and anger shot through and paralysed him.
It was there and then, on that ship and in that battle, that Charles knew he had to help the other man.
There was so much to Erik’s mind as the weeks passed and the shared pain slowly lifted. Sorrow, remorse, fear, insecurity, joy. And then there was nothing but a haze of muted memories; the beauty of what Charles used to feel.
He would take pain over silence in a heartbeat.
